Showcase
Wolvercote Primary School, First Turn, Wolvercote, Oxford
Primary school, 200 children ages 4 to 11 years old, 2007
The School
The school is a city primary school with a wide catchment
area. It is situated next to Port Meadow, an area of
outstanding natural beauty adjacent to the city centre.
The school hall is regularly used by the wider community
for evening classes and a regular Farmers market.
The brief
The school felt that a whole school project would create a sense of ownership for the children. It was therefore very much a collaborative project, to be seen by the whole community.
The work
Lindsey Thompson and all the children, designed and created
a wonderful mosaic celebrating the uniqueness of Wolvercote.
The children chose to highlight different aspects such as the
canal boats, the cattle on Wolvercote Common, the housing
and the local church as a celebration of their environment.
The outcome
"A fantastic project and an amazing outcome for the community to enjoy."
