Showcase
Finmere C.E. Primary School, Finmere, Buckingham
An Oxfordshire County Council School. 41 pupils 2005
The School
The school serves the village of Finmere and other surrounding villages. As a small rural school, the resources were limited and a residency would not have been possible without Kids@Art
The brief
To use the local area as a source for images
To create art work using fabric and other media
To create a collaborative piece of art work for display
The work
Rose Gorman worked with children from Reception to Year 6, with assistance from Year 10 pupils. All together they created a large silk painting to reflect the local environment. As well as working on their designs, pupils learned how to use wax resist techniques on silk, silk paints and collage. "It was good to have and artist to learn new things." "Gutta is like an invisible fencing." "I’ve learnt lots of new words and a different style of art" were some of the older children’s comments and pupils kept on asking when Rose would be coming back.
The outcome
"The project had a brilliant whole school feel about it. Pupils concentrated exceptionally well. We will invite members of the community in to see the art."
